9th International Day of Yoga

High Commission of India celebrated 9th International Day of Yoga on 18 June 2023 at Indian Country Club, Lilongwe. Ms. Halima Daud, Deputy Minister for Health, Government of Malawi was the Chief Guest at the function. The event was attended by around 250 people, including Malawi Government officials, diplomats, members of Indian community among others.

In her address, Minister Daud mentioned that the Government of Malawi take International Day of Yoga very seriously as yoga offers numerous benefits for physical, mental health development and healing. She further mentioned that daily pressures in the family, workplace and world have taken a toll on the physical and mental well-being of the people and can be alleviated through physical exercise such as yoga. In his remarks, high Commissioner Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan emphasised on various health benefits of yoga and Yoga for “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.

The entire event was live telecast on MBC, Malawi’s National TV and also on it’s facebook. The event was also widely covered in the major newspapers and online media.
