High Commissioner’s Remarks at the Bicycle Rally, 20 September 2026

Members of the Diplomatic Corps,

Members of the Indian community, and Members of press and Media

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning to all of you! Muli Bwanji !

At the outset,  I warmly  welcome you all today for this Bicycle Rally, organised as part of Seva Pakhwada, a fortnight dedicated to the spirit of Seva - selfless service, social responsibility and community participation.

Today’s gathering is not merely about cycling or sport event but it is about coming together as a community for a healthier individual, a cleaner environment and a more sustainable future.

The bicycle is perhaps one of the simplest and most powerful symbols of sustainable living. It requires no fuel, produces no emissions and promotes physical fitness. Every kilometre we travel by bicycle instead of a motor vehicle is a small but meaningful step towards reducing our environmental footprint.

This is closely connected with Government of India’s flagship initiative Mission LiFE – Lifestyle for Environment, a global initiative launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, to encourage people across the world to become Pro-Planet People. Mission LiFE reminds us that protecting our planet is not the responsibility of governments alone. It begins with the choices we make in our everyday lives.

Whether it is saving electricity and water, reducing waste, avoiding single-use plastics, recycling, choosing sustainable transport, conserving natural resources or adopting responsible consumption habits - small individual actions, when multiplied across millions of people, can create a transformational impact.

The Bicycle Rally also reflects the spirit of the ‘Fit India Movement’, another important initiative of the Government of India. Fitness is not only about physical strength or endurance; it contributes to mental well-being, productivity and a healthier society. Cycling is an excellent example of how environmental responsibility and personal fitness can go hand in hand.

India attaches great importance to sustainable development and healthy lifestyle. We believe that economic growth and environmental protection must move together. India’s initiatives in areas such as renewable energy, solar power, electric mobility, waste management and sustainable consumption reflect our commitment to building a greener and healthier future.

The message of today’s rally is universal and resonates strongly with the aspirations of both India and Malawi. Our two countries share a deep commitment to sustainable development, community participation and improving the quality of life of our people.

I am particularly happy that this event is bringing together people from all walks of life and spans all age groups. I firmly believe that such activities not only strengthen our people-to-people ties  but also demonstrate that India and Malawi can work together not only at the governmental level but also through communities and citizens.

As we begin this rally, let us carry with us three simple messages:  Stay Fit, Stay healthy and Adopt Healthy & Sustainable Life Style to  Serve the Society and the Nation.

Let us make sustainable choices a part of our daily lives - not only today, but every day.

I encourage everyone here to become a flag bearer of Mission LiFE and inspire others through your own actions.

Thank you. Zikomo Kwambiri.

Jai Hind ! Jai Bharat !

 Long Live India–Malawi Friendship!
