HIGH COMMISSION OF INDIA HOSTS INDIA DIALOGUE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAWI

The High Commission of India in Lilongwe successfully organised the first edition of the ‘India Dialogue’ in Malawi at the prestigious University of Malawi (UNIMA), Zomba on 5th December 2025. The dialogue brought together key stakeholders to engage on critical global and bilateral issues of mutual interest, providing a common platform for senior government officials, policymakers, academia, industry experts, and journalists to exchange ideas and perspectives on subjects of shared interests, and priorities between India and Malawi

The first session of the Dialogue focused on the theme “India and the Global South”, highlighting India’s growing role as a reliable and trusted development partner to countries of the Global South. Participants discussed India’s economic and development cooperation model, which is focused on the principles of mutual trust, partnership, and the spirit of “Develop Together as Equals.”

The second session, themed “India@2047 and Malawi@2063; Complementaries and Synergies Unleashing Through Economic Potentials,” explored the ambitious long-term development visions of both nations. India@2047 represents the Government of India’s strategic roadmap to transform the country into a developed nation by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.
Similarly, Malawi@2063 reaffirms the Government of Malawi’s aspiration to become an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant industrialised upper middle income country by the year 2063, when Malawi will celebrate its centenary of independence. The session examined areas of potential collaboration, shared priorities, and economic synergies that could help both nations achieve these bold aspirations.

The event was graced by Dr. Bright Molande, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malawi, as the Guest of Honour, who emphasised on the importance of strengthened diplomatic, economic, and people to people relations between Malawi and India.

The India Dialogue at UNIMA marks a significant milestone in fostering structured policy engagement, academic collaboration, and strategic partnership between the two countries.
