Celebration of 80th Independence Day of India

The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Lilongwe with a flag-hoisting ceremony on 15 August, 2026 at the High Commission premises with  zeal and patriotic fervour.

2.   2. The programme started with singing of National Song ‘Vande Mataram’. Then, High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. Amararam Gujar hoisted the tricolor, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. Thereafter, the High Commissioner read out the address of the Hon’ble President of India to the Nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day. During the programme, High Commission organised cultural performances by the members of the Indian Diaspora. Special singing of Vande Mataram song by the members of the Malayalee Association was arranged during the programme. 

3.  3.  The celebration was attended by approx. 500 people from all walks of life including  members of Indian Community and friends of India enthusiastically.

4. 4. The High Commission premises was decorated with tricolor to commemorate the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Community members and the Mission officials and their family members actively took part in “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign by uploading their selfies, shot with the Indian Flag and with the Har Ghar Tiranga Selfie Booth installed at the High Commission, on the portalhttp://harghartiranga.com 

5. 5.  High Commissioner also felicitated the participants of Special Independence Day Edition of Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, 'My India My Story' Reel Competition, 'India Through My Lens' Photography Competition', participants of Virtual Workshop on Warli Arts, organised by the High Commission on the occasion of 80th Independence Day, by awarding Certificates and prizes. High Commissioner also felicitated the candidate selected for the 88th edition of the Know India Programme (KIP), ahead of her visit to India from 16-29 August 2026.
