High Commission of India, Lilongwe organised a Diaspora Event titled ‘Role of Diaspora in Amrit Kaal’ on 26 February 2026, where members of the Indian community shared inspiring reflections on their ancestral journey to Malawi and their contributions and vision for India’s progress in Amrit Kaal.
The event was graced by Honourable Chipiliro Mpinganjira, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Government of the Republic of Malawi as the Guest of Honour.
In his remarks, High Commissioner encouraged the Indian Diaspora members to contribute meaningfully in India’s quest for becoming developed Nation by 2047 while highlighting the Government of India’s Vision and strategy for Amrit Kaal.
Honourable Deputy Minister Mpinganjira, in his remarks, mentioned that the concept of Amrit Kaal, as articulated by the Government of India, marks a decisive and transformative period in India's development journey. He also mentioned that Government of Malawi’s Vision 2063 is on the similar line of India’s Vision 2047.
The event was strengthened by thoughtful interventions from the 4 eminent members of Diaspora who were invited as Speakers to give their remarks on the Role of Indian Diaspora in the Amrit Kaal.
The programme also featured an engaging panel discussion, marked by insightful exchanges between Panelists with their diverse perspectives. The panelists discussed about history and pattern of migration of Indians to various parts of the world including to Malawi and their ancestral journey to Malawi. The women panelists spoke about contribution of women of Indian origin across the globe in strengthening India’s growth story and how their resilience, leadership and cultural connect remain a bridge between India and the world.
Members of the audience also spoke about their contributions to the socio-economic development of Malawi and how the members of Indian diaspora not only in Malawi but across the world should contribute to the development of India in different sectors like business, trade and investment, technology, hospitality, tourism etc.
The vibrant cultural performances by Diaspora members during the programme beautifully showcased India’s rich cultural heritage and strengthened emotional bonds with the community.
