                                    Merger of PIO and OCI Cards

As per Government of India's instructions, all PIO(Person of Indian Origin) cards issued till 09.01.2015 are deemed to be OCI(Overseas Citizen of India) card as PIO scheme has been withdrawn with effect from 09.01.2015.

The High Commission of India in Lilongwe (Malawi) will not issue any fresh PIO card w.e.f. 09.01.2015. All PIO applications received before 09.01.2015 and pending with the Mission/Posts are being returned to the applicants with the request to apply for OCI card at the same fee prescribed for OCI card, as PIO card scheme is no longer in existence.

OCI Card holders traveling to India are advised to carry the Passport containing U Visa sticker and OCI Card to avoid problems at Immigration check points in India.  In case registered OCI has obtained a new passport, kindly ensure to carry the passport containing U Visa sticker, new passport and OCI document during all visits to India.  For additional information please visit: https://passport.gov.in/oci
