Facility to NRIs to deposit the SBNs at the specified RBI offices 

Resident and Non Resident Indian Citizens abroad are advised to avail the latest Reserve bank of India facility to deposit the old series Indian bank notes of Rs. 500 and 1000 denominations (Specified Banks Notes-SBNs) in their bank accounts.

2. All Indian Citizens who were outside India from November 9, 2016 to December 30, 2016 can avail the facility to tender these SBNs at the specified offices of RBI in India until March 31, 2017. For Non-resident Indian citizens this facility would be available till June 30, 2017 within legally permissible limit of currency as per FEMA Regulations, 2015.

NRIs to show old notes to Customs at airport: Resident and Non Resident Indian Citizens returning from abroad will have to physically show the junked 500 and 1000 INR notes to Customs officials at the airport and get a declaration form stamped before they can deposit the demonetized currency in RBI during the period from up to March 31, 2017 or June 30, 2017, as applicable.
