Know India Programme (KIP)

Ministry of External Affairs is organizing the 36th edition of Know India Programme (KIP) from 1st to 25th October 2016 to strengthen engagement with young overseas Indians.  Focus of this KIP will be “Punjab”.  

KIP Guidelines have been modified with approval of EAM. Changes in the guidelines are highlighted below:

(a)    Duration of KIP has been increased from 21 days to 25 days inclusive of 10 days a select State.


(b)      The maximum age for participations in KIP has been enhanced to 30 years in place of 26 years. KIP participants should be in the age group of 18 to 30 years.


(c)      Missions/Posts arrange for return air tickets before participants leave for India, after the KIP participants pays 10% of total airfare. Mission may obtain a signed written undertaking from the participant that he/she will complete the KIP, failing which amount spent on airfare by Govt. of India will be reimbursed to the Mission/Post.

(d)    Mission/Post should ensure that KIP participant holds an international travel and medical insurance before issuing his/her international ticket. This is a mandatory provision.

(e)     Preference would be given to Indian-origin persons from Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago (also known as Girmitiya Countries).

(f)        From each country a total of five PIOs will be selected.

 (g)       If the total number of participants in a KIP is less than 40, Ministry will select candidates from the reserve list, including from those countries where five PIOs have already been selected.

Completed application forms should be submitted by PIOs to concerned Indian Mission/Post by 26 August 2016.
