 ADVISORY ON FRAUD/SPOOFED CALLS

It has been brought to the notice of the High Commission that some fraudsters are duping Indian nationals in Malawi by impersonating as officers of High Commission and also by spoofing the telephone numbers of High Commission. These fraudsters either seek personal information like credit card details etc. or try to extort money from Indian nationals. Visa applicants have also received such calls purporting to be from the High Commission. This is to confirm that no officials from the High Commission make any telephone calls seeking personal information from any Indian or foreign nationals. In case any additional documentation is required from an existing applicant, it is sought only through email(s) cons.malawi@mea.gov.in or hoc.malawi@mea.gov.in.   High Commission hereby requests the victims to share information on spoofed calls as per the format available on Mission’s website (www.hcililongwe.in). The information on spoofed calls in the prescribed format may be sent to the High Commission at the email IDs: cons.malawi@mea.gov.in or hoc.malawi@mea.gov.in.
